My Story *
The Nurse
Before becoming a doula, I spent over a decade working as a Registered Nurse in emergency and critical care settings. Throughout my career, I served in a variety of clinical, leadership, and education based roles. I valued caring for others during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives, but I never imagined how profoundly my own experiences would shape the work I do today. The Patient
When we began trying to grow our family, we experienced three pregnancy losses within a year. I was devastated. Despite my medical background, I felt overwhelmed, isolated, and completely unprepared for the emotional reality of grief and infertility. It seemed like everyone around me was moving forward while I was standing still, trying to make sense of a future that suddenly felt uncertain. We ultimately pursued IVF. After a failed transfer and many setbacks along the way (insurance can kick rocks), we were beyond thrilled to welcome our first son. While I was incredibly grateful, the positive pregnancy test wasn't the end of my story. Pregnancy after loss brought its own challenges, and much of my pregnancy was spent balancing hope with fear. It wasn't until I held him in my arms that I actually believed he was here.
The transition to motherhood was beautiful, but it was also harder than I expected. My postpartum recovery was physically difficult and complicated by postpartum anxiety. Like many new parents, I found myself wondering what was normal, what wasn't, and why no one seemed to talk about how hard this season could be. At the same time, I stepped away from my nursing career to become a stay-at-home mom—a role that has been both the greatest gift and challenge of my life.
The Doula
As I began searching for support and connection, I discovered something that changed everything: community. I found organizations, peer support groups, and individuals who understood the unique realities of infertility, pregnancy loss, pregnancy after loss, and postpartum life. The experience of being supported by people who truly "got it" was transformative. What started as a search for resources soon became a commitment to giving back. Over the years, I became involved in peer support, volunteer work, advocacy, and community-building within the infertility, pregnancy loss, and postpartum spaces. Through that work, I realized I wanted to do more than simply share resources—I wanted to walk alongside families through these experiences in a more personal and meaningful way.
When I learned that IVF and full-spectrum doulas existed, everything clicked. Today, I combine my nursing background, professional training, volunteer work, and personal experience to support individuals and families through fertility challenges, pregnancy, postpartum, and loss.
I've learned that while we can't always change the outcome, we can change how supported someone feels while moving through it.
Because no one should have to navigate these chapters alone.
